What are dental implants? |
 D ental implants are root-shaped, metal anchors that are embedded under the gums and supported by jawbone. Bridges or dentures are securely attached to the implants to give it the strength of natural teeth.On you first visit, Dr. Choi will surgically embed a titanium screw or post the jawbone. After the gums have healed around the post, you return for a second visit to have a replacement tooth attached over it. |
Benefits and Possible Complications |
| D ental implants have many benefits over conventional dentures. Because they are directly placed into your jaw, they are more secure and easier to use than conventional dentures and help prevent bone loss and gum recession. Dental implants can eliminate the need for grinding down adjacent teeth to support a conventional bridge, and for having to use a cumbersome, removable denture. Patients who have certain diseases including diabetes or who have undergone radiation therapy in the mouth area lowers the success rate for implant dentistry. |
Alternatives to Dental Implants |
| P atients have a variety of options to replace missing teeth, including removable partial dentures held in place by wire clips; fixed dental bridges cemented into position by crowns placed on the teeth adjacent to an empty space; and traditional full dentures. |
